The San Rafael Fire Department is sponsoring a program to help reduce the fuel load and provide better defensible space around your home. The City of San Rafael adopted an Ordinance with Vegetation Management Standards for parcels located in designated Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas. The WUI Ordinance requires the creation of Defensible Space around homes that are located in the high fire hazard areas.

Here’s what to do:

  • Contact SRFD’s Vegetation Management Specialist to schedule an on-site inspection at your residence.
  • After the inspection, contact your contractor to cut the Juniper or Bamboo in your yard that has been identified.
  • Then contact SRFD’s Vegetation Management Specialist to set up a date and time for the contractor working for the City of San Rafael to chip and haul it away at no expense to you!

For more information or if you received a Vegetation Compliance letter or to schedule on onsite inspection/chipper pick up: Patrick Bignardi, Vegetation Management Specialist (415) 847-8385 (Cell) (415) 458-5002 (Office) or Patrick.Bignardi@cityofsanrafael.org
