Marin View Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project
Funded by The National Park Service

Marinview, like many neighborhoods in Marin County, is located amidst open space and National Park lands. The neighborhood consists of 252 homes along the urban-wildland interface in Southern Marin County. One two lane road provides access to the neighborhood; local streets are generally narrow and winds along contours. The surrounding open space areas are chocked with flammable vegetation. In the event of a wildfire, these hazardous fuel conditions, in combination with steep slopes and limited egress, threaten the lives and properties of 750 residents in the community.

Marinview fuel reduction project consisted of two elements-community outreach and vegetation management. The project contributed to forest health by controlling evasive, exotic plants and improved watershed protection by reducing the likelihood of catastrophic fire and erosion.

The project substantially improved public safety by decreasing the fuel load in public managed areas and has encouraged residents to create and maintain defensible space.
