The City of Mill Valley conducts an annual emergency evacuation exercise every spring. The drill helps raise disaster awareness and provide residents with an opportunity to practice evacuating from their homes to a safe location.
Fire Safe Marin will have a booth at the Evacuation Drill Preparedness Fair at Tamalpais High School from 9-12, with information on creating Defensible Space, FIREWISE Community recognition, and an opportunity to speak to wildfire experts about your concerns.

Evacuating Neighborhoods: EDGEWOOD/HOMESTEAD VALLEY NEIGHBORHOODS
Evacuation Drill Preparedness Fair (Open to Everyone): Tamalpais High School – 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
On SATURDAY, MAY 20, 2017, the City of Mill Valley will be conducting its annual emergency drill in the Edgewood and Homestead Valley neighborhoods. If you live in these neighborhoods we invite you to participate in this VOLUNTARY EVACUATION, which is held in cooperation with the Mill Valley Fire Department, Southern Marin Fire Protection District, Mill Valley Police Department, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mill Valley Emergency Preparedness Commission. This annual drill helps first responders assess the issues that may arise if such an evacuation became necessary due to a disaster, such as an earthquake or a wildland fire on Mount Tamalpais.
The drill begins on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with an activation of the Alert Marin Telephone Emergency Notification System\ which is a reverse 9-1-1 dialing system that can be used to alert residents in the event of an emergency. After you receive the emergency activation, please proceed to the Drill Command Center located in the Tamalpais High School parking lot at 700 Miller Avenue between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
- Evacuate by foot, bike or vehicle to the Tam High parking lot. If you know that a neighbor will require evacuation assistance, please let us know.
- Emergency information and demonstrations will be provided by our community emergency partners, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Red Cross, Marin Humane Society, Whistlestop Wheels, Marin Medical Reserve Corps, Emergency Preparedness Commission and the Salvation Army.
The evacuation drill coincides with a wildland skills training for local public safety agencies simulating a fire impacting the City and unincorporated Mill Valley. Participating agencies will be practicing skills consistent with this type of incident and will be assigned to work through complex scenarios in a strike team/task force configuration including: hose laying, simulated spot fires, GPS/mapping skills, and simulations along Tamalpais Ridge. The Mill Valley Fire Department is anticipating up to 15 fire engines from 4 fire agencies will participate.
