3 Marin Firewise USA sites applied for grants from the NFPA and State Farm for Wildfire Community Preparedness Day projects.  All three grants were awarded through a competitive voting process, with the Marin support of Fire Safe Marin’s subscriber votes.

Grants were awarded to:

  • Fir Ave, Woodacre
  • Dominican/Black Canyon, San Rafael
  • Woodhaven Road, Ross/San Anselmo

Thanks to the generous support from NFPA and State Farm, 150 communities in the US received project funding awards to support activities aimed at reducing potential loss of life, property and natural resources to wildfire.

To be eligible for an award, applicants provided a description of the proposed project and how the grant award will fund that project that will begin or be completed on May 5.  Descriptions included how groups or individuals would work toward reducing the risk of wildfire or impact of a recent fire, and/or advancing preparedness for wildfire in the community.
